This is my first project using Godot - it is a simple top-down shooter with a few different enemies and powerups. See how long you can stay alive!
Enemy spawn rate is based on score and difficulty exponentially increases as your score goes up.
Collect energy from destroying enemy ships, then spend that energy on powerups. Navigate Powerup Menu at the bottom with:
1-4 (Keyboard)
Q / E (Keyboard)
L / R (Controller)
Purchase Powerups with
Space (Keyboard)
A (Controller)
1: ATK SPD UP (blue) - Slightly raises player ship fire rate to a minimum of 0.1s between shots
2: SHIELD (green) - Generate a temporary shield around your ship which grants immunity to damage for the duration
3: LIGHTNING (yellow) - Unleash a furious projectile to take out a large swath of enemies at once
4: ASSIST (white) - White: Summon a ship to your flank to assist in battle (up to 4 total)
Enemies:
Green: Simplest enemy, moves downward vertically
Yellow: Moves downward vertically as well as horizontally
Purple: Moves side-to-side, downward vertically, and fires a wobbly projectile
Red: moves side-to-side at the top of the screen and fires fast moving projectiles
Brown: will line up for a few seconds before diving at your positions
Red-Orange: Will move toward you for a moment, then retreat back while firing
Purple: Will try to line up with your ship and fire sideways in both directions
Credit to HeartBeast for a great tutorial series on setting up a game like this in Godot4 which served as the base for this project
Also credit to https://gvituri.itch.io/space-shooter for the basis for the sprites with a few additions/modifications
